Wavelength with host Kelly Moran airs Mondays at 10 am on New Sounds Radio. Repeats throughout the week, including Wednesdays at 4 pm and Sundays at 12 pm.

Hear shoegaze-y layers of guitars in music from My Bloody Valentine and soundscape-y layers of guitars from Noveller (aka composer, guitarist, and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate), along with solo guitar work by Bill Frisell from his recent Music Is and so-called “desert guitar” from the Tuareg songwriter and musician based in Agadez, Niger - Mdou Moctar. Plus, hear music by French post-metal band Alcest who're credited with pioneering “blackgaze”, which is an unholy combination of black metal, sometimes atmospheric in nature, crossed with shoegaze.

Then, hear electronic music with a little bit of abrasiveness from the soundtrack to The Social Network by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Sample a bit of music from the Sydney-based electronic experimental improvising quintet Tangents. This tune, "Jindabyne" is from their 2016 release, Stateless, but they have a new record due out in June, New BodiesListen also to music from the electronic project Telefon Tel Aviv, a project started by electronic musician/producer Josh Eustis and Charles Cooper, and built on a really simple Fender Rhodes melody punctuated by percussive electronic glitches. Host Kelly Moran says that it was this work, "Farenheit Fair Enough" by Telefon Tel Aviv, that got her into electronic music.

A reminder that host Kelly Moran performs with Oneohtrix Point Never, at the Park Avenue Armory on May 22 and 24.

And then hear something completely different: listen to vocal music by Ohio-based composer, educator, and composer mentor Jennifer Jolley, from a long-form work, “Prisoners of Conscience” about the arrest and trial of the Russian female punk group Pussy Riot. The piece is meant to be an intersection of religious music and punk music and is performed by the outstanding vocal quartet, Quince Ensemble, from their new record Motherland. We’ll hear the excerpt called “Police and Thieves,” which yes – might have a riff or two in common with the Clash’s version of the song (which was itself a cover of Junior Murvin’s 1976 original.)

There’s also music by American composer, improviser, and pedal steel guitarist Susan Alcorn, along with music by Korean composer and multi-instrumentalist Park Jiha, who makes experimental ambient minimalist music out of ancient instruments like yanggeum (hammered dulcimer) and Saenghwang (mouth organ). Plus, listen to an epic work by Canadian experimental music collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and more.
